Meet James Moorhead, Metromile’s New Chief Marketing Officer

It’s clear we are going places, which is why we are bringing on a Chief Marketing Officer to spearhead our mission of showing everyone just how easy and affordable car ownership can be. James Moorhead, former CMO at Dish Network and senior marketer at Procter & Gamble, is joining Metromile to lead all marketing efforts including digital acquisition, public relations, content, social media and email communications. Not everyone knows how to shake up an age-old industry, so when we found out James had led the award-winning Old Spice revival of “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like,” we knew that he was our guy. We can’t wait to see how James elevates the Metromile brand, so to get things started, here’s a little Q&A with the newest member of the Metromile team.

What excites you the most about joining Metromile?
We have a huge opportunity to better serve consumers offering them so much more utility than the traditional car insurance companies. In addition to significant savings on insurance, we have a suite of unmatched benefits for our consumers including street sweeping alerts, ask a mechanic functionality, car locator and real-time driving statistics.

How do you commute to work?
My family is in the process of relocating from Denver, CO to the Bay Area. We have a rental in Berkeley so I plan on taking BART.

Where is your favorite place to road trip to?
I love to road trip in the mountains or to the beach. Living in Denver has been amazing because you are 30 minutes from hiking in the Rocky Mountains. We also lived in Boston and we often found ourselves on Cape Cod enjoying the Ocean. We are looking forward to spending more time in Lake Tahoe and Napa.

Which Metromile app feature is most helpful to you: street sweeping alerts, ask a mechanic, car locator, or viewing driving stats?
I love the mechanic feature. In the past, I always felt that the mechanics at the car dealership were taking advantage of me because they had all the information, and I had none. With the real-time car diagnostics, I know much more about my car and feel empowered to make more informed decisions.
