Meet Raquel Rozas, Metromile’s New Head of Brand

We’re really making moves at Metromile and are excited to announce that Raquel Rozas is joining us as Head of Brand and Product Marketing. As we amplify our endeavors of disrupting the car insurance industry, Raquel will oversee all aspects of the Metromile brand, ensuring that the concept of affordable insurance for low-mileage drivers becomes synonymous with the Metromile name. A former Procter & Gamble executive, Raquel brings more than 10 years of brand experience from senior marketing roles, working with brands including Secret® and Tide®. We’re confident that this is exactly what we need to elevate the Metromile brand, and we’re also confident that Raquel’s answers to the questions below prove she will fit in perfectly with the Metromile team!

What excites you the most about joining Metromile? The opportunity to provide consumers with a more transparent and fair pricing option for car insurance, while at the same time providing them with excellent service be it with claims, help in finding parking or car diagnostics.

How do you commute to work? I just moved to the Bay area, so I’m in the process of exploring all the options. There are so many choices: train, bus, carpooling or ferry! Tomorrow I’m going to try out the bus system. The idea of a guaranteed seat and free Wifi sounds appealing to me.

Where are you excited to road trip to? Oh my….so many things I’m excited about. I already have a girls trip planned to Napa, but I’m also excited about Tahoe, Yosemite, Half Moon Bay, Highway 1 and San Luis Obispo… truly the options feel endless.

Which Metromile app feature is most helpful to you and why? The street sweeping alert is definitely one of the coolest features, but for someone who constantly forgets where they parked, the car locator will definitely come in handy.

Introducing John Orta, General Counsel at Metromile

We’re rapidly growing at Metromile, so as we scale, we are excited to announce that John Orta has joined Metromile as General Counsel and will oversee our legal, HR and recruiting teams. Before Metromile, John was Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at OpenTable (where you likely make all of your online restaurant reservations). In addition to serving on the executive team, he was responsible for all aspects of the company’s legal, HR, recruiting, fraud and risk teams, as well as the Chief Compliance Officer. John led the legal team during the company’s IPO and Secondary Offering in 2009, and OpenTable’s purchase by The Priceline Group in 2014. He also received the GC Impact Award from The Recorder in 2014 (a leading legal publication), so he’s kind of a big deal. To get to know John a little better, we had him answer a few quick questions.

What excites you the most about joining Metromile?
I honestly can’t limit it to one thing. First, I love companies that help people, and at Metromile not only do we provide a great insurance product that can provide substantial savings to our customers, but our app also has a suite of features that makes car ownership easier. That is a fantastic combination. Second, the people that work here are world-class and I could not be more excited to join this wonderful team and tackle the opportunity in front of us.

How do you commute to work?
I’m a BART guy. Even when it is crowded, I enjoy it. What I really need to do, however, is ride my bike to BART and burn some extra calories. That should be my new year’s resolution (but it isn’t). (more…)

Meet James Moorhead, Metromile’s New Chief Marketing Officer

It’s clear we are going places, which is why we are bringing on a Chief Marketing Officer to spearhead our mission of showing everyone just how easy and affordable car ownership can be. James Moorhead, former CMO at Dish Network and senior marketer at Procter & Gamble, is joining Metromile to lead all marketing efforts including digital acquisition, public relations, content, social media and email communications. Not everyone knows how to shake up an age-old industry, so when we found out James had led the award-winning Old Spice revival of “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like,” we knew that he was our guy. We can’t wait to see how James elevates the Metromile brand, so to get things started, here’s a little Q&A with the newest member of the Metromile team.

James Moorhead, CMO, Metromile

What excites you the most about joining Metromile?
We have a huge opportunity to better serve consumers offering them so much more utility than the traditional car insurance companies. In addition to significant savings on insurance, we have a suite of unmatched benefits for our consumers including street sweeping alerts, ask a mechanic functionality, car locator and real-time driving statistics.

How do you commute to work?
My family is in the process of relocating from Denver, CO to the Bay Area. We have a rental in Berkeley so I plan on taking BART.

Where is your favorite place to road trip to?
I love to road trip in the mountains or to the beach. Living in Denver has been amazing because you are 30 minutes from hiking in the Rocky Mountains. We also lived in Boston and we often found ourselves on Cape Cod enjoying the Ocean. We are looking forward to spending more time in Lake Tahoe and Napa.

Which Metromile app feature is most helpful to you: street sweeping alerts, ask a mechanic, car locator, or viewing driving stats?
I love the mechanic feature. In the past, I always felt that the mechanics at the car dealership were taking advantage of me because they had all the information, and I had none. With the real-time car diagnostics, I know much more about my car and feel empowered to make more informed decisions.

A road-trip-lover and public-transit-commuter? Sounds like James will fit in perfectly with the Metromile community. Stay tuned to see how he takes Metromile to the next level!

Introducing Metromile’s New CFO, Joe Selsavage

We are excited to announce that Joe Selsavage has joined Metromile as Chief Financial Officer! Joe was most recently the CFO at Hotwire, the leading travel discount site, overseeing their global finance and accounting efforts. He took them from launch to a well-known global company, and we are confident that Joe will be a key player in taking Metromile to the next level. Before Hotwire, Joe spent more than 10 years in accounting and management functions for various organizations in the Washington, D.C. area. To get to know Joe a little better, we asked him to answer some questions to gauge how well he will fit in at Metromile. Spoiler alert: he’s going to be awesome.

New Metromile CFO

What excites you the most about joining Metromile?
I’m super excited to be joining such a fun company that’s disrupting the car insurance industry and growing fast. I look forward to being part of the team!

How do you commute to work?
I live in San Francisco between Noe Valley and Castro, and use Muni to get to work. Editor’s note: Way to go, Joe! We’re all for commuting via public transportation.

Where is your favorite place to road trip to?
Anywhere. I love to spend time traveling and experiencing the world. My last job was at Hotwire, so I learned a lot about how to save money on last minute travel. I can jump in the car or get on a plane any time for a last minute trip. I love to road trip to Tahoe or fly to the east coast (DC, NY or Boston) for the weekend. If I have more time, I’ll go to Brazil.

Which Metromile app feature is most helpful to you and why?
I love the street sweeping alerts. As someone living in the city with a car that I only use occasionally, the street sweeping alerts have saved me many times from getting a ticket.

We are eager to see what the future holds as Joe steps into this important role. Speaking of important roles, we are hiring a ton in SF, Tempe and Boston! Check out our job listings if you are interested in joining the Metromile team during this pivotal time.
